Setting Vozkey up

  1. Add the keyboard. Settings → General → Keyboard → Keyboards → Add New Keyboard → Vozkey.
  2. Turn on Full Access. Settings → General → Keyboard → Keyboards → Vozkey → Allow Full Access. This lets the keyboard talk to the Vozkey app. It is not what gives it the microphone — nothing does; only the app can open one.
  3. Arm the microphone. Open Vozkey and tap Arm microphone before you go off to type.
  4. Dictate. In any text field, hold the globe key, choose Vozkey, then tap Speak.

Vozkey does not appear in the globe key menu

Apps read the list of installed keyboards when they launch, so an app that was already open will not show a newly installed keyboard. Close that app completely — swipe it away from the app switcher — and open it again.

The Speak button is greyed out

Two possible reasons. Either Full Access is off, in which case the keyboard says so in its display strip; or the microphone is not armed, in which case tapping the button opens the Vozkey app so you can arm it.

Transcription takes several seconds

That is expected, and it is the trade Vozkey makes. The speech model runs on your phone rather than on a server, so nothing you say is transmitted anywhere — but your phone's processor is doing work a data centre would otherwise do. Longer dictation takes longer. Newer iPhones are noticeably faster.

If you would rather have speed than the largest model, open Vozkey and change Accuracy and speed to the faster option.

It keeps getting a name wrong

Open Vozkey → Word corrections and add it. Vozkey applies your corrections to every transcript from then on, and also feeds them to the recogniser as a hint.

The microphone turned itself off

By design. Vozkey releases the microphone after a period of inactivity so it is not holding it all day. The timer restarts every time you dictate, and you can change it — 10 minutes, 30 minutes, 1 hour, or never — in the app.

Managing your subscription

Subscriptions are handled by Apple, not by us. Open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions, to change or cancel. If you have paid before and are on a new phone, tap Restore on the Vozkey subscription screen.
